Veriff OU
Founded in 2015 in Tallinn, Estonia, by Kaarel Kotkas and Janer Gorohhov, Veriff OÜ is a global identity verification company. Kotkas founded the company at age 20 after seeing first-hand how easy it was to fool legacy online ID checks, inspired by an early personal incident and a stint working on verification operations at Wise (formerly TransferWise). Veriff's platform combines automated AI with human expertise to verify identities using biometric matching, document analysis for more than 12,000 ID types, video analysis, device and network fingerprinting, and registry checks. The company supports government-issued IDs from 230+ countries and territories with UX localized in 48 languages, and offers identity verification, AML screening, and KYC solutions. Veriff reached unicorn status in January 2022 with a $1.5 billion valuation after a $100 million Series C round, and reached profitability in 2025. The company is backed by Y Combinator, Accel, Mosaic Ventures, IVP, and Tiger Global.
